Cory M. Dawson, age 44 passed away at his home on January 7th. He was born on November 6, 1974, to Ulondra “Londa” and Michael Dawson in Bluffton, Indiana. Cory graduated from Northrop High School in 1992 and attended Ball State University. He was employed at OrthoIndy, IU Health, and most recently USA Sports Productions.
He is survived by his daughters, Rachel (age 17), Amanda (age 13), his former spouse, Julie Dawson, all of Greenwood, IN and his significant other, Chelsea Emerson of Indianapolis. He is also survived by his mom, Ulondra “Londra” Dawson of Hartford City, IN and his father Michael Edward Dawson of Wisconsin.
He enjoyed playing games of all kinds, painting miniatures, attending gaming conventions, visiting amusement parks with his daughters, and had an important role in the gymnastics community, which was inspired by his daughters’ love of the sport. Cory was a very talented artist and was inspired by many artists he thought were “awesome”.
Cory was a kind, selfless friend, who was always positive and put others before him. He had an uplifting spirit and was always quick to make a joke and have fun. He was a devoted, supportive dad, and was committed to giving his daughters everything they needed. His laid back and fun-loving personality shone through in everything he did. He loved his daughters more than anything and always put them first.
He was a supportive boyfriend to Chelsea and they very much enjoyed their time together. After meeting through the gymnastics world, they spent the following two years of living life to the fullest. When they weren’t spending time with his beloved daughters, they shared memories of attending concerts, outings with friends, travelling to new places, and enjoyed every step of their journey together.
Services to celebrate Cory’s life will be held Monday, January 14. Friends and loved ones may call between 3:00 – 7:00 pm at Mount Pleasant Christian Church, 381 N Bluff Rd, Greenwood, IN 46142. A service will follow at 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a GoFundMe account for Cory’s daughters, GoFundMe account to help with the funeral funds, or you can write a check to Rachel and Amanda to be deposited in their savings account for college. Envelopes will be available at the service.

To the family and friends of Cory.
Words cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. Nothing can prepare us for the pain that comes from losing a loved one. Please know that the “God of all comfort “(2 Corinthians 1:3,4) sees your pain and longs to do something about it. The Bible gives us a hope for the future at Revelation 21:3,4 and John 5:28,29. May your precious memories give you strength and comfort during this very difficult time.

Our first friends as children are typically our cousins & our siblings … In saying this, one of my cousins, Cory Dawson, one whom I aspired to be like & idolized passed away Monday. I have to say this honestly has not hit me yet… still in shock. However, the more I think about Cory passing away… The heavier my heart becomes. I do know that Cory is a phenomenal artist, a beautiful soul with an open heart, intelligent beyond his years… Helping with his witty sarcastic sense of humor that you couldn’t help but love, a contagious laugh, a fantastic dad, hardworking (at times too much), athletic, yet very private person at times that would internalize his every move like your next move in chess. It’s crazy how some people can wow you with their charisma within moments of meeting one another… Cory was definitely one of those people!! I wish we had the same type of relationship we had as kids as adults… True story… I’m that cousin his mom forced him to drag to Ball State to the Flying Tomatoes to a concert… And he did! I’m sure begrudgingly… But he took his freshman cousin with him on campus… Mind you I’m 6 younger years younger… And we stayed the WHOLE TIME!! His car also broke down on the way home and we walked about 7 miles home… Lol!! I’m going to miss him… I’m sad I don’t have the opportunity to try and build a relationship as adults… But mostly, my heart breaks for him as his daughters are his pride and joy. I’m happy they were able to know him… But wish he was able to be here for them like he wanted to be.

Cory was a great guy and a positive influence on me when I was a much younger gamer attending Ball State University. He reinforced to me that the reason we really play games is for everyone to have fun. I lost touch with him many years ago but he will be missed. My heart goes out to his family and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

To Cory’s daughters, and loved ones, I knew Cory at Ball State, years ago, 1994 ish. We worked together at Wal-Mart, he was hired to put bicycles together and work the stock room. We spent many nights at local greasy spoons eating and drinking coffee and talking about life, the future, our dreams and plans. He was funny, shy, sweet, and we were very close for some time. We lost touch over the years, life does that unfortunately, but I thought of him often. My heart goes out to his daughters, losing a parent young and unexpectedly is so difficult. Find solace in each other, and those who knew him, and in the wonderful memories that I’m sure he helped create over the years. The world will be less amazing without him.
